SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT...

MY TYPEWRITER

Even though my typewriter xs an old model, xt works well, except for only one of the keys. X’ve wxshed many txmes that xt worked perfectly. True, there are forty-two keys functxonxng well enough, but just one key not workxng makes the dxfference. Sometxmes, xt seems to me that some organxzatxon are somewhat lxke my typewrxter- NOT ALL THE KEY PEOPLE WORKING TOGETHER.

You may say, “Well, X’m only one person. Xt won’t make much dxfference.” But, you see, the organizatxon to be effxcxent needs the actxve xnvolvement of every person, of everyone. The next txme you feel your efforts aren’t needed, remember my typewriter, and say to yourself, “X’M A KEY PERSON AND NEEDED VERY MUCH.”

Personal Signature

"Smile! “Say cheese! And BINGO!  we see happy and smiling individuals looking back to us!

Very few people may realize it, but our smile is our personal signature for almost everything we do. Whether it be speaking, laughing, greeting people, expressing yourself, showing confidence or just projecting yourself as a warm sincere person, our outgoing smile is the result of strong, healthy teeth. Our overall good health, in fact, is usually reflected by the condition of our teeth.

Look after your teeth and maintain that PERFECT SMILE!😁

Some good things never last

EGI Taft Towers was been my place for six months where I met and gained the friendship that I’ve been longing.

It was April 16, 2008 at 8:00 o’clock in the evening when I stepped into EGI Taft Towers. As I entered into the elevator that brought me to the 8th floor, I intensely asked God to give me good friends. Fortunately, Got did not let me wait for so long because before I entered my assigned room He granted my petition.

I met Gen the girl from Leyte and then the following day I met Mhayang also from Leyte and Mirah from Cagayan de Oro City. Then, there’s Jihan from Pampanga, Ate Buena of Pangasinan, and Jennelyn of Mandaluyong City. Then, at the middle of July, another girl from New Jersey, USA joined the group who was introduced to us by Mira as Maricel but lately we found out that she’s actually Maria Socorro and consequently we fondly called her Maria.

We were the eight (8) girls of 808 who shared laughter and fun, ideas, opinions, and knowledge in law, and conspired to different “crimes” both in EGI and in Review Center (of course, not really the crime that is punishable under the law… it’s just how we describe things in exaggeration).

It was on August when Maria transferred to other unit and paved the way for Jessica (Bicol) and Harriet (Ormoc City) to join our group. These two girls were also cool and fun to be with.

But one of the most remarkable things that we shared in EGI aside from studying/reviewing and eating together at the hallway was our “weeknights duty” wherein I, Maria, Jihan, Jen, Harriet, Mirah, and Liezel (an undergrad whom we met and became friend while we were having our duty) were having Lobo and My Girl Session then lately Catherine Session (Iisa pa Lamang).

Hmn… the friendship with those girls is one of the best things that came into my life; though there arose some unpleasant things among us but its just normal since we are of different personalities and came from different upbringings. But what’s important, is that, we had the good times to cherish.

But as our review class concluded so as our good times together ended. I felt so sad that it has to come to its end. Yeah, I shed tears as Maria and Harriet left EGI and rushed to the airport and even more when Mhayang and I parted our ways on the following. But the touching text message from Gen made me cry.

Really, some good things never last but what’s the best thing is that, we maintain our communication (Thanks to the modern technology!). By now, we are looking forward for our reunion next year. Hope Maria will be with her Mang Tomaz by then.

When you’re motivated…Survival is possible

That photograph with my mom and Sean was taken while we were on our way to the airport. The idea of living home and moving into the metropolitan filled my senses with excitement. Why not? I have a long list of reasons for it. Of course living independently is one of them and the fact of having a peaceful environment (away from the terrorist bandits and troublemaker tribal groups).

But as the scheduled time of my departure was approaching, there were so many questions and apprehensions that were playing on my mind. I was thinking of my beloved Sean Evander (my gorgeous, smart, witty, and loving nephew) if who will take care of him as soon as I leave? But what bothered me most was the idea of survival. “Am I ready to be apart from mother’s guidance and protection? Will I survive alone? And how my life will be like?”

Indeed, I was a total stranger in my new place… “No friends and knew no one”. It was the first Christmas and New Year that I was not with my family. Homesickness keep on attacking me and there were times that I wanted to packed-up my things and return home where I know my family were awaiting to welcome me with open arms.

But what motivates me to hold on and take away the sadness in my heart and soul is the aspiration that ATTY. will be prefix in my name. Thus, I have to be strong otherwise my fantasy will not come into reality.

Fortunately, I managed to live it up! And, it’s been a year now since I left my hometown. I am acquainted with some good people at my workplace yet none of them become close to me. Anyway, what’s important is I survive in this busy and competitive world.

The Fertility Tree

Have you known a place that best for those who are finding solitude? Yes, there is!.. its in UPLB (University of the Philippines-Los Baños) wherein aside from the fresh air it serves, you and me can also find privacy … a perfect place for unwinding especially for those who are searching for a peace of mind.

I visited the place one Saturday afternoon of November and I was amazed because I don’t only felt the relaxing experience but I was also fascinated on how UPLP preserved the nature.

One that catches my attention was the Acasia Tree which been their even before the existence of UPLB. It’s a Heritage Tree for the UPLB Community. It’s a massive Mushroom-shaped Rain Tree, an inviting refuge for those people seeking shade and rest after an active play under the scorching sun.

The tree is a spreading natural landmark in the campus. Popularly, it serves as an umbrella to conceal dating sweethearts and lovers. Thus, getting its humorous and popular name among locals as the “Fertility Tree”.

Sis, I might be having a Heart Ailment than you are...

It was around 6:00 o'clock in the evening of Friday (November 14, 2008) when I received another paranoying message. This time, it came from my sister telling me that she has a high uric acid and she has to undergo another urinalysis exam. At first, I wasn't bothered at all since high in uric will not affect her application. But on a second thought, I was attacked by an extreme worries and many "what if " played into my mind. And one of those is that, "what if the greedy group will use the uric issue to disqualify my sister?" Sounds tenable, right?
So, you think TGIF would still be appealing to me? When it comes to trouble and problems concerning my family and love ones... surely, I got so affected. But what really made me more anxious was her message on Sunday morning informing me that she has to undergo another ECG and worst she has to secure a cardio clearance. OMG! talagang nakakapraning!
Well, at around 7:00 o'clock in the evening of same day, good news have been revealed! She got her cardio clearance and the findings on her ECG was that she was lack in Potassium that's why lately she easily felt over fatigue and that also answer why she had a high uric acid.
I felt relief...and tears of joy were kept falling from my eyes... Then, I told my sis; "Susko!..that news of yours...I might be having a heart ailment than you are!"

Then immediately, I got my Medical Wonder Book and made a researched on Potassium. As provided by that wonder book, Potassium (K) is very essential into our daily dietary needs. The estimated dietary intake is 1.9-5.6 grams. But this amount will easily be surpassed if you eat largely of fruits and vegetables.

Three (3) electrolytes: Potassium, Sodium, and Chloride are electrolytes (minerals which, when dissolved in water, conduct electricity). The three are very closely related. They always operate in pairs: a positively charged molecule (sodium or potassium), with a negatively charged one (chloride [chlorine]). Although all are important, potassium is the key- it is the most important of the three.

Potassium works closely with magnesium in many body functions. It is in all vegetables, especially green leafy ones. Thick white potato peelings are rich in it. Bananas are also excellent.

There is more potassium in body cells than any other mineral; and we have a greet need for large amounts of it. Potassium helps maintain proper acid-alkaline balance in the blood and tissues, and prevents over-acidity. It is essential for muscle contraction, promotes hormone secretion, and helps kidneys to detoxify the blood. Its vital functions include acting as electrolyte, converting blood sugar into glycogen, and storing blood sugar in the muscles and liver. For example, muscle energy comes from burning glycogen; but, without enough potassium, there are no enough glycogen and extreme fatigue and muscle weakness results.

Lack of potassium causes sodium (salt) to accumulate in the body. The result is edema, high blood pressure, and heart failure. The heart muscle can be damaged. Constipation, extreme fatigue, muscular weakness, low blood sugar, and nervous disorders.

Potassium and sodium must be kept in proper balance at all times, or serious problem develops. Too much sodium in the diet disrupts the potassium/sodium balance in the body. A low potassium and high sodium diet helps produce cancer, cardiovascular disease (heart disease, high blood pressure, strokes, etc.)

But a diet high in potassium and low in sodium- protects against diseases! You can easily take too much sodium; but you cannot take too much potassium! Restricting salt (sodium chloride) intake does not lower blood pressure, until potassium intake is greatly improved. High dosage potassium salts (in pill form) can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and ulcers. There is lots of potassium in fruits and vegetables, and almost none in processed foods. There is relatively little sodium in fruits and vegetables, and far too much (often extremely too much) in processed foods. There are no ill effects from a diet rich in excess potassium, with one exception: “If you have kidney disease, you will need to restrict your potassium intake.”
Thus, it is essential that we have to balance our diet to achieve good health. The photograph of Food Pyramid above suggests the required foods that we have to take. Remember, having a balance diet is having a healthy living.
Have a Healthy Living, Friends!
